The Peace & Justice Project is utterly horrified at the latest policy from the home secretary that will mean have their valuable assets like jewellery seized and sold to pay for various costs as they navigate Britain's complicated and unjust immigration system.
It is clear to all that the Starmer government is more than willing to sacrifice the rights and protections of marginalised groups, such as refugees, in order to satisfy pressure from rabid forces on the far-right of British politics.
We wholeheartedly condemn this policy and once again call on the government to scrap the hostile environment it inherited from successive governments, and urgently work to build a new system based on the protection of rights, freedoms and dignity of those seeking refuge in Britain, with legal safe routes at its core. We also continue to demand that those fleeing war, poverty and persecution are given fair opportunities to work, housing and healthcare.
It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the protection and expansion of our human rights. Any attempts to deconstruct these invaluable and inalienable freedoms bust be resisted at all costs.
We are building an alternative to the appalling and inhumane treatment of refugees. Find out more and join: yourparty.uk
