Numerous verified reports of summary executions, sexual violence and other human rights abuses in the city of el-Fasher are deeply concerning escalations in the civil war, which has so far killed tens of thousands of people and displaced many millions.
These ongoing abuses come in the context of the latest iteration of unrest in Sudan and follows decades of coups, civil wars and massacres considered to be the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Whilst much of the fighting has been centred in the Khartoum city and Darfur region, the wider impact of the war has pushed approximately 25 million people into extreme hunger. Many scholars and experts on the subject have described the actions of the RSF paramilitaries as genocide.
The British government must do all in its power to stop the murder of civilians, ensure humanitarian aid reaches those trapped by the conflict and hold those pumping arms into this volatile situation to account.
