Shelf Lives, Gender Crisis and Fetch were joined by Peace & Justice Project founder Jeremy Corbyn at the Piehouse Co-op to kick off 'A Summer To Save Music'.

The Music For The Many campaign's 'A Summer To Save Music' began at the newly-reopened Piehouse Co-op on Wednesday 4 June.

Launched in response to the government's inaction to protect Britain's grassroots music venues, 'A Summer To Save Music' is calling for immediate action in the form of a ticket levy on large arena and stadium concerts, paid for by large corporate sponsors, to protect independently-run creative spaces.

The UK loses an average of 2 grassroots music venues every week. In the year 2023, 15% of all British grassroots music venues were forced to close their doors permanently.

The event was kicked off with a high-energy performance from new queer punks Fetch, playing one of their first ever live shows after only forming at the start of the year. Their performance was followed up by a raging set from the first band to perform at Music For The Many twice, Gender Crisis, who entertained the packed-out venue with their melodic choruses and intense riffs.

Following Gender Crisis' stunning set, Peace & Justice Project founder Jeremy Corbyn gave a rousing speech on the importance of protecting grassroots music venues, funding the arts and community organising.

Earlier in the day, Jeremy had presented his own Gaza Inquiry Bill to Parliament, calling for an investigation and accountability for any British involvement in Israeli atrocities committed in Gaza. The bill passed its first reading and continues its parliamentary journey on 4 July.

The night was closed with a set from Shelf Lives, who delivered a phenomenal and energetic set that fittingly brought the night to a powerful end.
