Jeremy Corbyn visiting The Hague to support South Africa’s case against Israel under the Genocide Convention

Today, Jeremy Corbyn is travelling to The Hague to support South Africa’s case against Israel under the Genocide Convention.

Corbyn was the only political figure explicitly named by the South African government. The South African Ministry of Justice said “The South African delegation will be joined by senior political figures from progressive political parties and movements across the globe which include amongst others Jeremy Corbyn.”

On Monday, Corbyn urged the government to support South Africa’s case at the ICJ. In a debate in Parliament, Jeremy said “can’t the government understand the anger around the world when they watch this in real time happening?”, adding that “South Africa has taken this initiative in order to hold Israel to account for the deaths of so many wholly innocent people.”

“We have a responsibility to raise our voices to stop the annihilation of the Palestinian people. This is an historic moment for humanity – and a wake-up call for our own political leaders who have sat back and watched this unconscionable massacre unfold.”

Corbyn will participate in a press briefing tomorrow, organised by the Progressive International, following South Africa’s presentation to the Court.
