Israel's allies must stand up for peace by suspending all arms sales

The prospect of an all out war in the Middle East looms large as the situation grows more volatile by the hour.

The assassination of Hassan Nasrallah and subsequent preparations for an Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon has brought us to the brink of a devastating war that will cost many innocent lives and displace millions.

With more than 700 dead after Israel's latest bombardment of the highly-populated city of Beirut, the civilian cost of this latest escalation is already great. We condemn the total failure of Western governments, including the US and UK, in preventing the atrocities unfolding before us.

The ongoing genocide in Gaza and lack of preventative of Western governments has laid bare the unforgivable political equivocation of the President of the United States, British Prime Minister and their respective governments, who have refused to place any level of sanction on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or his administration, continually provided political cover for Israel's repeated and severe breaches of international law and refused to suspend the sale of the very arms used to take the lives of over 40,000 Palestinians.

The blood of all those killed by Israel's bombing of Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the violations from its illegal occupation of the West Bank, is on the hands of the US and UK governments. Israel is only able to act with such devastating impunity because of the carte blanche support of its allies.

We once again call for the total suspension of all arms sales to Israel to force Benjamin Netanyahu, who has until now outright refused a temporary ceasefire, back to meaningful diplomacy. It is unconscionable for any government to continue to meet one leaders total refusal to bring about peace with essentially unlimited access to the weapons he is using to commit atrocities against civilian lives in Palestine, Lebanon and Yemen.
