134 MPs and Lords have signed a letter to the government demanding that arms exports to Israel are immediately suspended. Has your MP signed the letter?
The United Nations Security Council this week voted for an immediate ceasefire in the war in Gaza. The UK is one of Israel's major arms suppliers, with 15% of components for the F-35 military jet being made in the UK by companies like BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace and others.
As the letter states, "the United Nations Secretary-General, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and others have said that Israel has committed grave violations of international law in this assault. The International Court of Justice has said that Israel's assault is "plausibly" in breach of the Genocide Convention.
In this context, 'business as usual' for UK arms exports to Israel is totally unacceptable. Both domestic and international law, including Criterion 1 and 2 of the UK's Strategic Export Licensing Criteria and Articles 6 and 7 of the international Arms Trade Treaty, require the government to prevent the transfer of military equipment where there is a clear or overriding risk that such exports might be used to commit or facilitate a serious violation of international humanitarian law or international human rights law."
We must ask our government to suspend arms licenses and exports to Israel immediately. Use our letter writing tool to tell your MP to sign the letter and call on the UK government to end arms sales to Israel.
If your MP has signed the letter already, an email thanking them for signing the letter will appear instead.
