Recent events in Turkey have raised serious concerns about democratic rights, political freedom and academic freedom. A Turkish court has moved to remove Özgür Özel as leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Turkey’s main opposition party, and reports have emerged of police action against the party’s democratically elected leadership. These developments come amid wider concerns about pressure on opposition figures, judicial independence, and restrictions on democratic and academic space in Turkey.

This campaign has been launched by SPOT — Solidarity with the People of Turkey — and is being supported by the Peace & Justice Project.

SPOT is calling on people in the UK to ask their MPs to speak out and raise these concerns in Parliament and with the UK Government.
