Statement on UK sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank

Trafalgar Square Palestine Rally
Following today's UK government announcement on illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the Peace & Justice Project has released the following response:

Today's measures taken against illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank are welcome.

However, they should only mark the start of the process in bringing about real peace and social justice for the Palestinian people, who have been subjected to decades of unimaginable subjugation, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

The UK government must commit to a full arms embargo on Israel, ending all forms of military co-operation with the IDF and supporting the ICC arrest warrants against Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his cabinet.

Following The Gaza Tribunal last year, we found the British government to be actively aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes in Gaza, and called for a total end to the UK's complicity in the atrocities that have unfolded since October 2023. Until the full recommendations of that report are noted and implemented, we will consider the British government a partner in the countless Israeli war crimes unleashed on the Palestinian people.

There is a long road to justice ahead. Britain must commit to every single step.

We will continue to closely monitor the ongoing situation in the Palestine, as well as the relevant diplomatic exchanges between Britain and Israel.
