From John Healey as Chancellor and Wes Streeting at the MoD, to Yvette Cooper overseeing our NHS and Shabana Mahmood staying at the Home Office, the majority of the new cabinet have played key roles in cuts and austerity in our communities, further privatisation of our public services, political cover for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the hostile environment for refugees and those seeking safety and security in Britain.

Whilst there have been some positive signs that things may change under Burnham’s leadership, his appointments suggest nothing more than tinkering around the edges of Starmer’s failure after changing the branding.

We will accept nothing less than a total economic reset and policies such as wealth tax, rent controls, sanctions on Israel, cutting the likes of Palantir out of our NHS, ending pandering to the far-right on immigration and the hostile environment once and for all.

However, it is becoming clearer by the moment that Burnham plans will be insufficient to meet the urgent moment we face in Britain and around the world.
