The Grenfell Tower fire was not an freak accident or unavoidable tragedy.
The fire was the avoidable result of years of systemic neglect and classism, as well as the grotesque profit before people mentality of numerous companies and individuals relating to the build, maintenance and general administration of the building. The Grenfell Inquiry report laid bare numerous failures of process in the private sector, among others, and made clear that ultimately there were identifiable persons and companies that bear responsibility for the fire, resulting deaths and life-changing injuries sustained in the blaze.
With the 10th anniversary of the fire fast-approaching, this latest development is a long overdue step towards bringing about justice for those who lost their lives, loved ones and homes in the fire.
Since the founding of Peace & Justice Project, we have stood shoulder to shoulder with the victims of the fire and the wider community who have been impacted by the events of Wednesday 14 June 2017.
