Peace & Justice Project joins the global calls for his immediate and unconditional release from illegal detention by Israeli forces, who have held him in appalling conditions on unsubstantiated claims and without charge.
Dr Abu Safiya's representatives have said that his condition is 'critical' and he is showing signs of abuse, torture and dehumanising treatment at the hands of his captors.
There have been numerous reports of appalling treatment since his abduction in December 2024. These accounts fit into the countless testimonies of Palestinian captives who have reported unimaginable levels of abuse, including sexual assault and incidents of rape.
The British government must take all available steps to ensure his safe and immediate return to his family. This must include sanctions on Israel, total suspension of arms exports and an end to the unconscionable military cooperation with its government despite the ongoing genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.
