Climate Justice - Green New Deal
Tackling the climate and environmental emergency is not just a scientific necessity, it is also a matter of justice, especially for those set to be worst hit. We will be campaigning to decarbonise and restructure the economy to make it radically more sustainable.
We will form a network with other organisations to develop and campaign for a Green New Deal. If you are a climate justice group, environmental activists, trade union, community group or similar green organisation and would like to work with us, please contact us on email@example.com. We will hold a roundtable event with partner organisations in the coming months to plan our work together.
You can read our road map for a Green New Deal here. Please join this campaign to be part of our action plan ahead of COP26, the UN climate change conference to be held in Glasgow in November.
Economic Security - Pandemic solidarity
The long shadow of the coronavirus pandemic stalks our future. The tragic human cost in lives, lost jobs and mental health illness will be with us for a while to come. We are organising solidarity in communities across the UK as the impact of austerity, the pandemic, and the new recession bites. We are asking Peace and Justice Project supporters to link up locally and address this economic emergency together.
We will form a network with other organisations to support communities in this difficult period while campaigning for a more decent and just economy. If you are a food bank, mutual aid group, trade union, or similar social organisation and would like to work with us, please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org. We will hold a roundtable event with partner organisations in the coming months to plan our work together.
You can read our analysis of the likely impacts of the pandemic recession, and how governments should respond, here. Join this campaign to help out and connect with volunteers near you.
Democratic Society - Media reform
A free media is the bedrock of a democratic society. The Peace and Justice Project is committed to working with a wide range of groups and organisations campaigning for a more just, free and accountable media. We will commission research, support grassroots actions and campaign to bring about a media system that is fit for the 21st Century, one that nourishes rather than distorts democratic debate; one that supports rather than constrains journalistic freedom; and, above all, one that speaks truth to power and gives voice to the voiceless.
We will form a network with other organisations to campaign together; if you are an activist, journalist, or media outlet interested in media reform, please contact us on email@example.com. We will hold a roundtable event with partner organisations in the coming months.
You can read more about our media reform agenda here. Join this campaign to take part in actions, including signing our petition against billionaire TV takeovers.
International Justice - Vaccine equality
Even as we celebrate the first shots of the COVID-19 vaccines administered in the UK, it is increasingly clear that poorer countries will have to wait years to access the treatment and protect their people. Some rich countries have acquired enough doses to vaccinate their entire populations nearly three times over, while experts suggest that nine out of ten people in poor countries will not receive a vaccine this year. Intellectual property laws, public services decimated by IMF-enforced austerity programs, and a distorted global economy are preventing recovery across the Global South.
We will network with other organisations to campaign for wealthier countries to use their power to support, not block, a swift vaccine rollout and economic recovery across the world. If you are a global justice or health equality organisation interested in working with us, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We will hold a roundtable event with partner organisations in the coming months.
You can read more about our vaccine equality work here. Join this campaign to take action, including signing our petition for the UK to drop its opposition to vaccine availability in the Global South.
