The United States and Israel have launched a dangerous military escalation against Iran, putting the lives of millions of people across the Middle East at risk.
This war was not inevitable. Peace and diplomacy were always options. Instead, we are witnessing a reckless escalation that could plunge the region into an even wider and more devastating conflict.
Yet the British government has already allowed UK military bases to be used by the United States for operations connected to this war — without a vote in Parliament and without transparency about the extent of Britain’s involvement.
Decisions that could drag Britain into war must not be taken behind closed doors.
That is why Jeremy Corbyn has introduced the Military Action (Parliamentary Approval) Bill, which would require parliamentary approval before:
- UK armed forces are deployed into armed conflict
- UK military bases are used by other countries to launch military operations
After months of devastating violence across the Middle East — from the ongoing genocide in Gaza to the dangerous escalation now involving Iran — the world must step back from the brink.
Britain should be working for peace, diplomacy and upholding international law.
